The tags are keywords that define the work of art. Below are the definitions of tags. Click on any tags to see only posts that relate to that tag. Many works of art may contain tags that overlap definitions and share conventions.


 

"charcoal" A drawing or marking tool composed of carbon that produces a rich black mark.

"coloring" relates to works that have a special technique to color application.

"digital" relates to a work produced most using computer tools

"drawing" relates to a work produced with marks rather than blended pigments.

"hatching" is a drawing technique employing closely placed lines, either in straight criss-cross formation or curvilinear formation.

"ipad" The work of art was produced on the iPad graphic tablet.

"line" defines works that are composed of lines or use lines as a dominant compositional tool.

"painting" usually relates to work with wet media or blended pigments.

"paper color" relates to the importance of the color of the ground or base material of which the art was composed. Also known as "toned paper".

"pencil" drawing tool usually composed of graphite.

"sketch" A sketch is a drawing but set apart by its immediacy of execution and the raw execution in representing forms or the subject.

"sketchbook" A binder of paper used for sketch drawings or wet media works.

"study" is a draft or experimental work which may lead to another more refined work.

"spot color" is when only a small amount color is applied to the composition.

"tradigital" is a work of art that uses digital technology as a major step in the visual approach to composition or development of visual detail.

"wash" refers to wet media. A brush is used to apply a usually diluted color pigment upon which additional marks can be added on top of.

"watercolor" can relate to more than its specific medium. Inks, acrylics, and other media can be applied in a watercolor technique.
